Mission statement for gaming in the library
The purpose of gaming in the Seeley G. Mudd Library is to enhance the academic and community atmosphere on the Lawrence University Campus, and to support our greater mission statement. We recognize that gaming is not only a popular hobby, but also an emerging field of study, covering a wide variety of disciplines. We also recognize the role that gaming, in a wide variety of formats, can play in enhancing a positive social environment.

Gaming @ the Mudd
The library offers a variety of opportunities for social gaming throughout the school year. Back in 2009, we began the tradition of Super Smash Bros. Brawl Tournaments. These occur every Fall and Spring mid-term reading periods, and occasionally during winter term reading period. During these tournaments, we also set up TVs and video game systems for open gaming. The open gaming depends on what demand calls for, and has ranged from Super Mario Brothers on the Nintendo Entertainment System (along with other retro consoles and games), to Mario Kart on the Nintendo Wii.
We have also hosted Magic: The Gathering events, with the help of the university's Magic Club.
Our library participates in National Gaming Day; a yearly event created by the American Library Association to spread the word about the benefits of gaming programs in libraries. For more information about gaming at the Mudd Library, take a look at our Gaming in the Library web page.
If you have a suggestion for a game you think we should play in the library, or if your group would like to host an event, please let us know.
The library has a Nintendo Wii system, as well as Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3 games in our collection. All Lawrence University faculty, staff, and students are welcome to check them out.
